Activity Details

Introduction to Computers on Oct. 30 is a good session to understand computer basics and try to feel more comfortable with the way computers are designed. Check out the poster on the entrance bulletin board to know what is and is not covered before registering for this session.

Scrapbooking offers the opportunity to get inspiration for holiday layouts. Interesting photo perspectives, creatively-presented journaling and cutting-edge designs make it worthwhile to come together as a group for inspiration. Mark your calendar for Nov. 2. And it’s also nice to know that the calmer days following favorite celebrations enable one to revisit those events when they are scrapbooked.

Upcoming Events

Loitering

In the last few weeks, we’ve had people periodically sleeping on library grounds. We are making additional security rounds to discourage this type of behavior. The same goes for no parking of vehicles or bikes on library property during hours we are closed. We regret that there is a lack of concern at times. If you observe unwarranted behavior at the library when we are closed, please alert the police.

Never Boring

Not only do we meet many interesting people in the course of each week at the Beach Library, but the collection exposes us to a variety one can only dream about.

One of the experiences we have is the wide variety of readers and viewers. One can view a particular movie and find it stimulating and the greatest to be savored, and another can comment that it doesn’t deserve a place on the shelf. The same is often said regarding novels-one reader will distinguish the story as starting off slow and characters poorly developed, while another will find it believable and entertaining.

In light of this diversity, these titles have fallen into both sides of the spectrum and for those who want a new experience, consider-

n “Remains to Be Scene” by R. T. Jordan (Large Print, M JOR). This comic mystery offers an inside view into the lives of the rich and famous, appealing particularly to those who thrive on Hollywood gossip. One reader found that the characters kept her entertained while another maintains the plot is unbelievable.

n “Bad Attitude” by Sherrilyn Kenyon, (Large Print, M KEN). One reader could not relate to the characters at all while another reader simply cannot find enough Kenyon titles to read and would be tinkled to death if she wrote an extra one each year.

n “The Shape of Snakes” by Minette Walters (Large Print, M WAL). Liked and hated by two readers, the story itself kept both turning the pages. If you like bleak circumstances and wonder they can possible work together, you may be particular intrigued as how this story can play itself so well.

Finding a Title

Staff often tell patrons how to find a book on the shelf. If it turns out you don’t find it, please let the staffmember know. They, hopefully, will be able to accompany you to help browse and, if the title isn’t on the shelf where it should be, can put you on hold for the title so we do a further search. This not only assures the title will reach you but help us identify missing materials and track them down.
