Historic society kicks off season, all welcome to join in
Estero Island Historic Society will kicks off its new season at St. Raphaels Episcopal Church Parish Hall at 5601 Williams Drive, Fort Myers Beach.
The program features a discussion and overview of the digitalization project that the society participated in last year. This Digitalizing Southwest Floridas Heritage project was part of a grant that enabled the historic society to submit 800 photos and slides for digitalization, giving the timeless photos and images an opportunity to be preserved forever.
These digital photos will be available on the web in a few months via the Florida Electronic Library, also as a digital Publication of Archival, Library and Museum Materials and through the University of Florida Digital Collections.
Events planned for this year include a Christmas Open House at the Cottage, an historic boat tour or trolley tour in March, and a series of speakers for our monthly meetings that will feature Barbara Cummings of the Southwest Florida Historic Museum in January, Leroy Hommerding of the Fort Myers Beach Library in February, and Neil Wilkinson of FGCU in March. All are welcome to attend and join in.
