Input, please
To the editor:
My name is Jim Atterholt and I am considering running for Fort Myers Beach (FMB) Town Council this Spring. I would like to take this opportunity to reach out to the entire community and request your input. I currently volunteer to serve FMB on the Local Planning Agency (LPA) which assists the Town Council on zoning and planning issues.
Before moving to FMB permanently, I had the privilege to serve the State of Indiana in various roles including state legislator, insurance commissioner, chair of the utility regulatory commission and as chief of staff to the governor. My motivation for running for Council is not because I am angry with anyone, have a hidden agenda or any axe to grind – I am just interested in how best I can continue to serve. If I decide to move forward as a candidate, my philosophy will be one of limited government through civility, common sense and professionalism.
My wife Brenda and I are blessed to live right on the beach. We were horrified at the devastation prompted by Red Tide last year. As the critical solutions to this problem are long-term, I have some ideas I will share over the coming weeks on how we can best keep this issue on the front burner at both the state and federal level. The purpose of this letter, however, is to seek your input.
Please send me an e-mail with your thoughts on issues before the town that concern you. You can reach me directly at atterholtjames7390@comcast.net . If you would prefer to talk by phone, just e-mail me your number and I would be happy to give you a call. Thank you in advance for your kind consideration. I really look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Jim Atterholt
