Republicans should do the right thing
To the editor:
On July 4th, Americans celebrated declaring their independence from a despotic monarch. Over two centuries later, Congressman Justin Amash had the courage to do what our Founding Fathers had done: he dissolved his political bands to the Republican Party.
Republicans are already attacking Amash, who is exploring a third-party run against President Trump, and already he is calling him “dishonest,” despite Amash being the most transparent and honest politician since Abraham Lincoln. If he decides to take this route, Republicans will surely lose in 2020.
But instead of attacking a patriot for doing the right thing, Republicans should just, you know, do the right thing. The Tea Party movement and the House Freedom Caucus, which Amash was a founder, used to stand for the very principles that he espouses. Now they condemn him for staying true to his principles.
Republicans needs to start listening to the Liberty Movement and implementing our concerns. Libertarians helped President Trump get elected in 2016, because we knew that shaking things up would be better than the corruption and “more-of-the-same” politics. Republicans must follow through!
