Free our Beach
To the editor:
I got quite angry when I read your article last week about the uncertain futures of street performers and artists in Times Square on Fort Myers Beach.
Last month, I attended a Town Hall meeting on this ridiculous prohibition of street performers and artists and watched in dumbfounded amazement as our inept town council mulled over, split hairs and debated over which street performers should be allowed in Times Square.
I came to the realization that none of these council members (aside from Anita Cereceda) have a clue or even knew what they were talking about! I thought to myself, ‘These clueless people run “our” local government?! Wow!’
I believe these council members are not qualified to make such lifechanging decisions over the career of any street performer!
Nor should they stop performers from making tips. Of course, town council does just fine on their salaries and couldn’t care less.
Town council also doesn’t care if they squeeze out all the life, fun and color out of our little island. They’re turning Fort Myers Beach into a dull, colorless place with their decisions.
Let performers perform!
Let the beach breathe!
