It is not government’s job to do harm
To the editor:
This is disturbing information to see and hear in regard to Lime Rock mining easements in Lee County.
Commissioner Brian Hamman is now on record and on TV before he even hears the case with his recent statements to Fox4 news.
Where Mr. Hamman goes wrong with his statement is there is only a few places left to mine. He promised to make the appropriate decision at the appropriate time based on information and public input in his recent email to me on March 1.
Why not conserve and be efficient with this resource? No need to mine it now. His Lake Park comment does not hold up. Lakes Park does not have a 100-feet deep and 2.5 mile long pit.
Lakes Park was a long time ago and still has low oxygen issues.
We would have to wait until the year 2100 with the proposed Troyer Mine to compare the reclaimed life to Lakes Park. Mr. Hamman needs to get the real facts. Guess he lied to me about his concern. He is bending over backwards to please these mining applicants.
It is not government’s job to do harm. The County does not have the right to just change everything up on these residents who bought homes to an area they believed was zoned agricultural.
The commissioners, the county manager and other government employees should be held accountable and liable for negative impacts this will cause homeowners.
