One nation under God
To the editor:
“Where is it written that we must act as if we do not care, as if we’re not moved?”
“Well, I am moved. I want a kinder, gentle nation.”
That was the late George W. H. Bush, as he accepted the nomination for President in 1988. Thar was 41 years ago. Bush served in the Oval Office from 1989 to 1993.
His call to civility rang then and rings true today, even more so. It applies to politics as well as society in general. The behavior of many is no longer acceptable to the American people.
We teach our children to have ethics like courteousness and respect. We prohibit foul language, physical and psychological harm. Yet, we see our “elected representatives” doing harm to our Nation.
We the People must stand up to our representatives now and stop the civil war between the Democrats and Republicans or risk compromising the greatest nation in the world.
The need for the Wall is real. The need to adhere to the immigration law is real.
The need to end the Government shutdown is real. The need to cooperate is real.
The need for a win-win is real NOW.
The fight to win-lose must stop and stop now. If Congress cannot resolve this now, what next? In real life, we the people create the art of compromise because we know that’s the only way to resolve anything, so that both sides win.
So, just do it Congress and stop showing you don’t care! Stop the in-fighting so our nation can move forward.
