New signage needed for Park and Ride

To the Editor:

It is in everyone’s interest that visitors to Fort Myers Beach make use of the new Park and Ride facility on Pine Ridge Road, but the signage on Summerlin is counterproductive to that happening:

U.S. 41 to Gladiolus offers three signs on Summerlin: two signs on the right say “Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva straight ahead.” Another sign just before Pine Ridge says “Fort Myers Beach keep right.” By following this sign, one would move to right lane and exit to San Carlos Boulevard. By doing this, the visitor will languish in traffic on San Carlos all the way to Main Street before encountering a park and ride.

One never makes a left onto Pine Ridge and never knows about the Park and Ride.

New signage needs to inform the visitors that there is a Park and Ride on Pine Ridge. I don’t know who is in charge of signage, but it would be great if signs could direct the visitors to the new Park and Ride.

Another improvement might be to change the arrows at the end of Pine Ridge at San Carlos Boulevard. Right now there are three lanes of traffic. The left lane shows an arrow to go left onto San Carlos, the middle lane shows an arrow pointing straight at the mini golf and the right lane shows an arrow to turn right on San Carlos. The center lane could show both a left turn and a straight arrow. This would shorten the left turn line that sometimes extends beyond the single lane that flows to this area and ties up the lane for the other two options.
