To the Editor:
What exactly is the purpose of Town Council? How many town managers have we gone through? How many town attorneys have we gone through? Council is supposed to plan the future of our island and to be prepared for changes outside of our control regardless of the street that you live on or how long you’ve lived here. Our Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code were extremely well done 20 years ago, but we have failed to keep them current with changes that have been imposed upon us by the federal, state and county governments. Council has become embattled in the minutia, things that by definition are the responsibility of the town manager, and we recently have elected council members because of what they are against, not what they are for, or for their abilities to plan for the future. Anita Cereceda is the sole candidate this election that is outside that mold. Countless times Anita has taken positions that are good for the town, while not necessarily in her own best interest. Anita approaches all topics with an open mind, waiting for the facts before making up her mind and understands that while she may be elected by residents, she is the steward of the town – made up of residents, non-resident taxpayers and the business community. Next month, re-elect Anita Cereceda for stability on Council.

We need Anita Cereceda to be on our town council. She knows the history of our town-knows the comp plan and the land development codes. A vote for Anita is a vote for civility and a real benefit for the town.
