Demand Clean Water Now

To the Editor:

Did you know that our Caloosahatchee river is no longer classified as a river?

It’s the C-43 canal.

Declassified so the Lake O discharges can continue at 75%, to the east coasts 25% of maximum discharge rates annually.

Did you know your public officials political strategy is to construct the C- 43 water storage facility as the fix to our local water issues via the Lake O discharges?

Problems are that they are not telling you about the storage facility for water that has no filtration measures or cleansing devices on it when they open up the gates and release the stagnant polluted water.

Did you know that all of your votes on Amendment 1 have been squandered and ignored for the purchase of land south of Lake Okeechobee to send clean water back to the Everglades?

While these are just a few examples of the negative effects of the Lake Okeechobee discharges that all happen to have one thing in common; they are all politically charged.

Our local waterways being effected by the Lake O discharges is political as a matter of fact. A lot of the big time problems we endure is based on actions from our elected officials.

We as the SWFL CLEAN WATER MOVEMENT clean water activism group have been “protesting” the Lake O discharges for years on end now to help raise attention about the negative effects onto our community. Now, we ask of all of you to “protest at the ballot box” for clean water as a basic human right!

With such examples of obviously having the wrong people in elected offices, WE have a chance to be the change for our local waterways.

Vote clean water candidates only this election as you all voice your outrage upon our ecological disaster known as the Lake O discharges and those held politically irresponsible.

For starters, vote Dick Anderson over Larry Kiker for Lee county commissioner.

Vote Jason Maughan over Lizbeth Benacquisto for state rep. Vote Chauncy Goss over Francis Rooney. Vote John Scott over Matt Caldwell. Vote Charles Messina over Ray Rodriguez.

Anyone who has been in there for a bit, vote em out! They had their chances and failed us. The SWFL CLEAN WATER MOVEMENT has been protesting the offices of those listed as a “no” here the last month and a half. We are helping educate those of you who will decide who will lead for clean water and who will talk a good game about water quality while doing nothing about it for the good of our community based 100% on clean water.

I don’t have to remind you that we are a 100% tourism-based town. If we don’t have clean water then we won’t have tourism. If we don’t have tourism we don’t have a community which were based on. A multi billion dollar tourism sector at stake is what this election is about for all of us who work and reside locally. Show your outrage at the ballot box this election. If you’re not outraged , then you’re not paying attention. The Now or Neverglades Declaration has been used as a litmus test for those politically who are behind clean water is a basic human right and those who are not. Those listed here not to vote for all have refused to sign the Now or Neverglades Declaration to buy the land south of Lake Okeechobee and see some clean water back to the Everglades. To us that is a clear indicator that these professional politicians who would rather play to the hand of special interests like big sugar for example, and not for clean water as a basic human right for us as the people who elected them. Now we can “un elect” them.

How can you make a difference for our local waterways?

Vote clean water movement candidates only this election as your form of “protest”.

Demand clean water as a basic human right!
