Mayor with Council support says who cares what taxpayers and voters want
To the editor:
I hate to admit it, but one of my biggest mistakes, was endorsing our newly elected Mayor and Council. After 8-1/2 years of working to keep our town on a solid financial footing, they are spending us into the ground.
After the taxpayers voted not to borrow money to buy a new town hall, they found a way to go around it. Let’s take the money we keep in reserves for emergencies and buy it anyway! Who cares what the people say, they deserve it! What was going to cost $1.5 million total, is now up to almost $3 million. We can just raise the mill rate to 1.06 per thousand. It is easy to spend others people’s money, as long as it is not yours, its OK.
At a workshop last month, the Mayor stated that she had meeting with the people of the Connecticut street neighborhood about a parking lot at 216 Connecticut Street as overflow parking for the Mound House and it was “the meeting from hell.” That is something only the Mayor and Council want, but who cares that the people on Connecticut Street only live there. In case you did not know it, we have an agreement with the church for overflow parking now. The Council is sending their head planer to the LPA at a near future meeting to get them to recommend a new zoning category so they can put that lot in. If you have nothing that fits, make up a new one to get around it. They will make it fit.
How much more will that cost us taxpayers? Please let your voice be heard. Your neighborhood could be next. At the next election, remember what they are doing to you now!
