To the editor:

The 57th annual Lions Shrimp Festival was fantastic! Judging by the revelry of the day and the sadness in the voices of those who were not in attendance, the Shrimp Fest is a true FMB holiday. This year, Cypress Lake High School Athletics were honored to bring back the 5k run before the parade. Getting a late start, there was much to do to make this event happen, and I was blown away by the support of the Fort Myers Beach community. With over 300 runners, the race was a huge success – I just wanted to take a little time to thank everyone involved.

First and foremost, Ted Clifton and the Lions Club of FMB were instrumental in helping every step of the way. Thank YOU! In addition, special thanks to our business partners, sponsors and supporters: Diversified Yacht Services, Southwest Florida Eye Care, Panther Baseball Alumni Association, Messery Painting, Tunaskin Aquatic Apparel, Island Fit Rehab, Florida Community Bank, Charley’s Boat House Grill, Doc Fords Rum Bar and Grille, Semmer Electric, Pinchers Crab Shack, Gulfshore Grill, The Fish House, Lovers Key Resort, The Lighthouse Island Resort, Pink Shell Resort, Hammerhead Gym, Wind and Water Sports, Topps Supermarket, Publix Supermarket, Winn Dixie, Sun Harvest Citrus, The Shops of Keys Estero Plaza and all of our volunteers that made the race day special.

In closing, as a “beach kid,” the Shrimp Festival was always the day you looked forward to all year. When I moved away, it was the day I missed the most. Thanks to the FMB community for continuing to make The Shrimp Festival special and we are proud to make The Shrimp Run 5k a part of it.
