Mayor sends holiday greetings and Town birthday wishes

To the editor:

The town celebrates its 19th anniversary today.

The time has passed in the blink of an eye.

When the town incorporated and we dropped the very first beach ball on New Years Eve, it was actually a decoupage project that I did on my back porch at the Santa Maria condos! No one would have believed it unless you saw it up close! Don from the Dairy Queen actually “dropped” the ball from a long extension cord rigged to a tall pole placed by the Pier! What a day.

There was great hope and enthusiasm for what would lie ahead for our community. For me, that excitement remains untarnished.

As the year comes to a close I find myself looking back and looking forward with respect to our town. It’s a theme I think about often as we continue to strive to maintain our unique character in a time of great redevelopment. With the support of our many volunteers who serve on advisory committees, the addition of key people to the Town staff as well as those who have served us for years and the unique blend that makes up our Town Council, this community will be well served in 2015.

I hope you and yours have a great holiday season and a healthy and happy New Year.

As we ring in 2015 please join me in wishing the Town of Fort Myers Beach a Happy Anniversary!
