Will Obama dare?
To the editor:
The threat of a constitutional crisis is looming on the political horizon.
President Obama’s pledge to use “executive action” to, in a single pen stroke,” legalize millions of illegal immigrants. The arrogance of President Obama is a reflection of his determination to have his way in spite of the lack of moral/legal authority to do so. He continues to defy a Congress with which he will not negotiate and so he reverts to bullying tactics. This lack of political prowess has permeated his entire presidency and he fears that he is irrelevant. If so, this is because he lacks the psychological viewpoint that if he accepts any variance of his design, that he will be portrayed as weak. He is weak. He appears to speak from a position of strength when he has little support for his ill-conceived public policies. And so he threatens to defy Congress with his immigration amnesty.
The U.S. Supreme Court made it very clear that “over no conceivable subject is the power of Congress more complete” than its power over immigration.
The power of the presidency is tremendous, however it is not absolute. And so, we have the seeds being planted for another two years of an ineffective, but willful, President Obama. If President Obama forges ahead with this unlawful tactic, the Senate will have no recourse but to exercise its prerogative procedures to resolve this constitutional crisis. This period will give new meaning to being a “lame duck” president.
