Resident questions Council and Town staff
To the editor:
I have lived on this island for 22 years, and this has to be the most corrupt council yet. (Yes, I am including all of them since incorporation).
In a recent opinion from Bob Raymond, he stated this is the best staff he has ever worked with. He claims that yes, the Town manager, Town attorney and development director all live elsewhere, but they do their professional job.
Do they have their heart into what they are doing, or is it just a paycheck?? Do they really care about the residents who will definitely be hurt by what is going on right now? They don’t really care about me and my taxes. They are paying their taxes where they live, not here. From what I am reading and hearing and watching on cable, it seems that our Council is being run by the Town manager, and development director and yes, the attorney, and NOT BY THE COUNCIL WE ELECTED.
The council should be giving the Director directions and not the other way around. Your almost last statement that the all of us on council and staff are dedicated to our Town. The council may think they are, but how can the staff be dedicated if they don’t even live here. Don’t we have enough talent on this island to keep it here?? Maybe it can be incorporated into the codes just like a council candidate must be an island resident. I know there are many more like me who are having these thoughts. Something to think about.
I hope come March and election time, we get some Council members with some backbone who will think for themselves and not let the Staff do all your work.
