Henry Heron in 12th year
To the editor:
Henry Heron was first published in November 2001 in the Charlotte Sun Herald Waterline. Since then, it’s appeared in publications throughout Southwest Florida and Long Island, N.Y. like the South Hampton Press and North Fork Magazine. A book “The Best of Henry Heron Cartoons” was also published along the way.
In May 2002, Henry Heron appeared in The Fort Myers Beach Observer, where it can still be found most Wednesdays.
After 650 cartoons, Henry’s non-heron-like appearance remains unchanged and his significant other, Henrietta, would never be seen without a bow in her hair, high heels, a necklace and ear bobs.
I can’t imagine why this cartoon has lasted for twelve years. But as long as there’s a vacant space on the page, Henry will be there to fill it.
