River cleanup a success
To the editor:
I would like to thank everyone that participated in the Imperial River Clean Up this past Saturday. Also thank you to the City of Bonita for removing the trash as fast as it was brought in.
The rain early in the morning threatened but cleared up to be a nice day. Sixteen people came out for the event, and it was another great day of fun and picking up. Our RTM Kayak flag was blowing but the river valley is pretty well protected and wind did not bother us. After the rains and flooding from this past wet summer, a lot of refuse and debris had blown or been swept into the river. We found a chair in a tree that must of been swept there when the water was six foot higher. Another group found a stroller in the water!
Thank you Councilwoman Martha Simons for coming out again this year and helping to clean up. She started this practice many years ago and we intend to keep it up at least four times a year. The Imperial River lived up to its name. In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful rivers in Southwest Florida to paddle.
