Boat parade official seeks Pearl Harbor survivor
To the editor:
This year’s Fort Myers Beach Christmas Boat Parade sponsored by the Beach Chamber falls on Dec. 7 -the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
We would like to honor a local Pearl Harbor survivor if possible. We have contacted the American Legion and the VFW with no results. Internet searches have been unsuccessful as well.
If you know of a survivor, please call the FMB Chamber of Commerce at 454-7500 and leave the information with the receptionist. We know that age and health issues may exist, therefore we will make every accommodation possible.
Regarding the parade, last year was a big success, and we know this year will even be bigger and better. Any decorated boat can enter. Prizes for winners of several categories (sail, power and man-powered) will be awarded.
Last year ,we added the most decorated/spirited dock party category, and we hope to expand on this. Entries can also include commercially sponsored boats, which will afford some advertising opportunities for businesses.
Please consider entering your boat. The parade starts and returns to Salty Sam’s Marina, which has again generously provided overnight slips without charge for decorated entrants.
If you can’t join us on the water, consider going to one of the many viewing points, including the local watering holes.
Look for more information as the event nears.
Don’t forget, if you know a Pearl Harbor survivor, please contact us.
