Short term limitations need to stay
To the editor:
There are many reasons that the short-term rental limitation law has been an excellent advantage for our island property and business owners.
The quiet zones catering to longer-term renters are very successful. In our neighborhood, owners are keeping their properties in top shape. That makes better-looking properties that command better prices and are easier to keep rented.
Renters begin to become part of the neighborhood, help keep things picked up, come to picnics, make friends and want to return to our Island, often as not, to the very same property so our owners can book ahead.
Even the short-term rental properties are doing better and getting longer bookings because of the rub-off effects of the law.
Please do not let a few shortsighted people abort this very successful and productive ordinance. Our Island does not need more short-term rental units.
