Pool donations clarified

To the editor:

Let’s clarify the record as to who donated the money to the town swimming pool and why it was finally given to the town after more than 12 years of sitting in a bank account.

First of all, it was the Fort Myers Beach Civic Association that blew the whistle more than a year ago on the fact that some of the money raised years ago by the Beach Pool Foundation had never found its way to the pool.

Secondly, it was a good many beach residents who years ago donated that money, not the one person who finally got around to presenting the town with the check.

Just wanted to set the record straight as to whose money it was and why it was finally coughed up.

By the way, the pool foundation folks promised to maintain the pool after it was built but never did. Beach taxpayers are spending big bucks doing that today.
