COP should be voters’ right

To the editor:

My wife and I went to the Town Council meeting in April to voice our opinion about COP. There was standing room only. Our concerns fell on deaf ears, and I had the feeling the Council members minds were already made up. The majority of people there were against the plan and only a few business owners who bothered to show up were for it. Maybe the other business owners knew something we did not.

Councilman Kosenski’s first question was, “Would a patron leaving the bar be able to take their cup for a souvenir?” I was real worried about that. My wife and I have noticed how the businesses were already making their mark on the beach. We go to the beach access behind the Mermaid, and they have taken over most of the beach with rental chairs. They told my wife to move or they would call the cops. She did not move, but when the cops came she moved.

This is not fair to the residents. We foot the bill for this town in our taxes. Council should have left the voters decide. Everybody has an opinion and council has to listen to the voters’ opinion; that is whom they represent. We would like council to repeal their unfair decision.
