Low-flying aircraft needs more attention
To the editor:
Despite the hard and diligent work of committed people, low flying aircraft continue to roar over Fort Myers Beach, startling us from peaceful sleep, interrupting conversations and making our patios unusable at times.
This is particularly galling because the community of Estero has obtained a ruling that overflying aircraft must maintain a height of 4,000 feet over Estero.
Why have the residents of Estero achieved this while we have got nothing? Cynics might say that there might be more millionaires per square mile in Estero than here. If that were the case, it would be totally unjustifiable. Justice must not be steered by wealth and influence!
I think that another possibility for Estero’s success in this matter may be that large numbers of people campaigned for a minimum height for aircraft coming over Estero. Here in Fort Myers Beach we have tended to “leave it to someone else” to campaign for us. The Workshop on Nov. 15 was very poorly attended. The room at the Chapel by the Sea was virtually empty when I went there. If FAA officials think that we don’t care, they will not bother to do anything for us.
If you care and want this nuisance to stop, please make your views known! Please report noisy low flying aircraft to the airport noise hotline at 590-4466, giving the time of the over-flight, your location and any other information you have or send an e-mail to noisecomment@flylcpa.com.
As Senator Nelson mentioned in his Thanksgiving Message that he felt privileged to serve us, I wrote to him and asked him to help us. However, this is only one letter and it is unlikely to get his attention, but 100 letters might.
Senator Nelson’s address is: Landmark Two, 225 East Robinson St., Suite 410, Orlando, Florida 32801.
If you want to stop aircraft flying low over Fort Myers Beach, please do something!
