Completion of bridge work is applauded

To the editor:

No matter how long any one of us has been living here on Fort Myers Beach, as we approach the Matanzas Bridge and come to the rise, the scene before us is spectacular. The expanse of sparkling waters, brightly colored buildings, palm trees lining the streets and possibly a sailboat or two as well as a parasail in the sky is all in our view.

As if this isn’t a sight in itself, we now have all this framed by a most lovely Caribbean teal-blue-colored bridge. What a welcome for anyone -resident or visitor. I think to myself how fortunate I am to actually live here.

I remember very well that Tom Myers was a member of the Town’s Traffic Committee. At that time, he brought forth the idea of having a blue bridge around the year 2000 and well beyond. Now, during the ensuing years, Vice Mayor Bob Raymond, who is also chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Lee County, brought this to fruition using Federal money.

I thank all of those involved in bringing this about.
