Town cultural resources director will be missed
To the editor:
For all the Beach friends who love Mound House, it’s tragic to learn of Theresa Schober’s imminent departure.
Theresa, during her nine-year directorship of Mound House and Cultural Resources Department, has done a tremendous amount for our island. Using her professional skills in archaeology and her organizational abilities, she has obtained grants for the development of Mound House and other Town projects to the tune of more than $3 million. Consider that this site and property, the oldest establishment on the Beach, has a history that goes back more than 2,000 years to the ancient Calusas. Thanks to Theresa’s efforts this will be displayed in an elegant new exhibit when the property is reopened in November.
Thanks to this and her other major responsibility -the development of the popular Newton Park- our island has some outstanding examples in explaining and displaying the history of our island and its contribution to Florida’s development.
I hope all our friends appreciate Theresa’s accomplishments and thank her for all she has done for us.
