Letter Carrier’s Food Drive officials report numbers, give thanks

2 min read

To the editor:

The results are in from the annual Letter Carrier’s Food Drive and once again Lee County residents met the challenge in record level donations.

In the one-day letter carrier food drive held Saturday, May 14, 408,300 pounds of food, including $2,054 in cash contributions, was collected.

Cash contributions convert to $12,324 in value with Harry Chapin Food Bank’s ability to purchase $6 in food items for every dollar donated.

Most of the food donated in the drive will go the Harry Chapin Food Bank, which makes it available to other local agencies at no charge. Other agencies that received food in Lee County include Pine Island Food Pantry, Lighthouse Sanctuary of Alva, Salvation Army of Labelle, Lehigh Community Services, Interfaith Caregivers, Café of Life, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and Tabernaculo de Alabanza.

I would like to thank all of our carriers and community volunteers for your participation in this annual event. A special thanks is given to the generosity of the residents of Lee County whose donations make this possible.

The food banks in Lee County depend upon us every year to fill their shelves and it couldn’t be done without many helping hands.

Congratulations on the tremendous results!
