Resident angered by “squatter” rights

2 min read

To the editor:

If residents and other taxpayers of Fort Myers Beach have not yet read the April edition of the FMB Civic Association’s “Tidelines,” be sure to put it on your “must read” list. Every article is worth your time, especially “Squatter’s Blues.”

Have you ever heard the expression, “How do you eat an elephant’? The answer is one bite at a time. Can anyone understand why our town manager cannot go after squatters one at a time? He says, “I don’t want to single anyone out. I want to make that clear.”

WHY NOT??? If he knows there are blatant violations out there, clean them up “one bite at a time,” whether they are “politically connected” or not.

The country is broke, the state is broke, the county is broke and our town is broke, yet our town manager and council turned down a very willing “squatter” in Times Square who is willing to pay us about $6,500 per year to rent parking space for his business.

Am I missing something here or is it that our mayor/council will not do their job for fear of stepping on “politically connected” toes??? Things seem to be going from bad to worse.
