To the editor:

On January 25th, 2011, the Fort Myers Beach Library District unanimously voted to accept Resolution 11-01. The resolution calls for cooperation among the public and private sector organizations within the Town of Fort Myers Beach.

Among the goals of the resolution is the establishment of an event to bring together organizations and other interested parties to develop ways to work together for the common good of our citizens. With a working title of “BeachWalk,” the event would showcase the role of each organization in the community and provide an opportunity for discussion of matters of common interest.

A sampling of some of the organizations listed in the resolution includes other taxing districts such as Beach Fire Control District, Town of Fort Myers Beach, Lee County Government entities such as the Visitor and Convention Bureau, business entities such as Pink Shell Beach Resort and Diamondhead Beach Resort, service organizations such as the Kiwanis and Women’s Club, cultural organizations such as the Art Association, Garden Club and Estero Island Historic Society, home owners associations, churches and any other interested parties.

The first of these recurring events will be planned and hosted by the Library District Board. The Board plans to determine a fall date for the event at their meeting on May 24, 2011. Anyone interested in helping with the planning process is most welcome.

It is the goal of the Library Board to promote good relations among all entities in our community, to encourage and support mutual efforts and to bring back to the Beach a spirit of peace, cooperation and goodwill.

Copies of the resolution are available at the library upon request.
