Visitor looks forward to library expansion

2 min read

To the editor:

I recently returned from a month’s vacation in Fort Myers Beach, having visited there off and on for the past 60 years but never for a month.

Having access to the computers at the Beach Library at no cost was wonderful as I was able to check email messages daily.

While in Fort Myers, I followed the debate underway concerning the proposed expansion of the library. A community is judged by its cultural infrastructure and the Beach Library is a gem.

However, based on the often wait for using the computers by both visitors and residents, an expanded library and additional computers with privacy screens would be greatly welcomed. Both visitors and residents depend on this resource and the library should ensure that visitors know about this resource as it certainly adds to the appeal of Fort Myers as a tourist destination and therefore, supports the local economy.

I would like to thank the gentleman at the library who manages the reference section, as he was most helpful. I would also hope that all visitors using the computers make a financial donation to the library-building fund when they leave as I did.

I look forward to returning to Fort Myers Beach again next January and to see the expansion of the Fort Myers Beach Library well underway.
