OOA founder touched by supporters
To the editor:
In the past six years, few stories have hit the bulls eye as precisely as Bob Petcher’s March 9, 2011 article about a US Marine marrying his love on Fort Myers Beach. Most stories on marriages are often worthy of “Chick Flick” consideration but not this one. The real story within the story was about the true heroes of Fort Myers Beach who have taken it upon themselves to serve their Country.
The owners of the Silver-Sands Resort have never denied a request by Our Troops in six years. The General Manager at the Pink Shell was not required to roll out the red carpet for a US Marine and/or Operation Open Arms. Darrell and Matt Hanson of Salty Sam’s Marina have never denied a request made by Our Troops in six years. Justin Hall of Parrot Key was absolutely stellar. Thanks also to Libbey’s Flowers, Photographer Valarie Hoffman and Beach Musician Steve Farst. Thank you all.
To refresh our memories maybe the article will be republished after this letter. Why should the Beach Observer consider doing this? All of the heroes within this writing deserve to be looked squarely in the eye and perhaps acknowledged with “Thank you for your service.” Their kindness and generosity to those who protect our freedoms should inspire us all. One thing is for sure. Everyone associated with this wedding inspired me.
Thank you Beach Observer for your accurate and impartial reporting. Finally, the true heroes of Operation Open Arms are acknowledged. Our sponsors are in a one-by-one style. It was so great to acknowledge those who make a difference.
