Councilwoman sets record straight

To the editor:

In the Feb. 23, 2011 issue of the Fort Myers Beach Observer, Carl Conley took out a full-page campaign ad and, without my permission or foreknowledge, used my name and placed it in such a way as to make it appear as though I have endorsed his candidacy for Town Council. I do not – nor will I publicly endorse any other candidate. We are all running as individuals on our own merits.

I will not discuss this beyond setting the record straight: Last year, I was invited to the Beach Chamber Gala, as were the rest of my cohorts on Council. Carl asked me if I would read something he had written about himself as a way of introducing him as outgoing Chairman. I agreed to read what he had written because, at that time, I truly believed he was my friend and a man of his word.

Well… that was then, and this is now.
