Carters give thanks for cottage honor
To the editor:
My wife Susan and I would like to thank all involved in the presentation to our house of its Historic Designation plaque. The process began in 2003 and many, many people have helped along the way.
Listing anyone would certainly omit someone, but the Town of Fort Myers Beach and the Estero Island Historic Society must be thanked for doggedly refusing to drop the project. Hopefully, there will be many plaque presentations to follow as committed historic preservation carries on.
Anyone, owning any of the many older properties, commercial or private, is encouraged to contact Walter Fluegel at the Town for information. The more of Crescent Beach that can be saved, the more Fort Myers Beach will grow its cultural heritage.
So while you’re out driving around the island, cruise by 251 Pearl St. and check out the nifty plaque on a pretty average cottage of a certain age and join us in the wish that enough of them will be saved to give our beach the flavor it should have. Thanks again.
