Questions for the FMB Library Board
To the editor:
Why is it when I talked with a structural civil engineer who has been involved in projects like the library expansion that he stated the costs after building would go up a 100 percent versus the 9 to 11 percent projected by the Library Director?
Why did the Library Board reject having their Board Meetings at FMB City hall with TV access? The cost would be what is paid by the FMB Fire District, which I understand is zero.
Why did the Library Board reject the petition of 600 residents even if wrongly addressed, but they knew the intent was against the expansion? These were obtained by word of mouth and many made special trips to sign it.
Here is a chart depicting size and usage of area libraries:
Library Size (sq. ft) Annual usage
FMB Proposed 34,299 105,567
Bonita Springs 15,000 (56% smaller) 207,900 (97% more)
Sanibel 29,000 (15% smaller) 133,236 (26% more)
Lakes Regional 40,000 (17% bigger) 589,824 (459% more)
Tax payers, what do you think?
