Remember the veterans
To the editor:
Tonight (Nov. 6, 2010), I celebrated the 235th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps with the Paul Ison Marine Corps League. These 235 years of distinction were not given to the Corps, but earned through trial and tribulation.
Soon, Veteran’s Day will be here. As I listened to the MIA/POW remembrance speech tonight, I solemnly reflected on those who never came home. Sitting amongst our ranks were members of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, the War on Terror and every skirmish in between. Amongst us, we all know someone who didn’t return.
For all Marines, soldiers, airmen, and sailors, I simply thank you for your service. I thank your families for the hardships they endure to support your convictions. For every one of us who ever gave -from a year overseas, to the greatest sacrifice of all- I thank you.
Let me part with Reagan’s words, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on to them to do the same.”
