Fire board candidate wife offers facts

To the editor:

After reading the letter from Lee Melsek for the Fort Myers Beach Civic Association Board of Directors in last week’s paper, I would like to clear up some inaccurate statements that Mr. Melsek wrote.

For the record, Flip Harby was a former Fort Myers Beach Fire Commissioner for two terms with his last term ending in 2006. Both times he ran for the Beach Fire Commission he ran unopposed.

In 2009, the Florida Governor did appoint Flip to serve as a temporary fire commissioner for four months, which ended in September 2009. In November of 2009, Flip did run unsuccessfully for the Beach Fire Commission against Betty Goodacre.

For a reality check, Mr. Melsek, Mrs. Goodacre was up for re-election not Flip. He is running in the November election for the Fort Myers Beach Fire Commssion for Seat #5. Those are the true facts, Mr. Melsek. I should know. I’m his wife.
