Resident plea for bike path
To the editor:
My husband and I recently purchased a house on Fort Myers Beach. I’ve been coming to the Beach since I was 15. It truly is a dream come true.
I’m an avid bicycle rider and often go past Lover’s Key to Bonita. I make sure to stop at the park and watch the manatees.
I’m wondering about the lack of a bike trail on the beach at Lover’s Key. Cars are moving at 50 to 60 miles per hour, and the narrow bike path is a little scary. There is plenty of room for an adequate bike trail well off the road. It’s really scary when drivers are distracted looking around the beautiful area or talking/texting on their cell phone.
Fort Myers Beach should have a clearly marked bike trail as well. The road is too narrow and, with as much traffic that is on the Beach, it could be decreased if people felt safe on the road.
