Ode to a beloved pet
To the editor:
Suzy, the world-famous and amazing dalmatian has died. She was 11-years old and had lived a life filled with remarkable accomplishments – the most notable being the reviving of a comatose woman on her death bed, so she could say her good-byes to her grieving son.
Sending Suzy to her final resting place and losing this friend was more than heartbreaking. Our courage came from the following, which should help mitigate pain for other pet owners.
“And so my dear friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, please do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having fun anymore. I know it will take great courage on your part, but please see it that my life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing, with the last breath that I draw, that my fate was always safest in your hands. We will see one another again and, no matter how long it may take, I will be waiting for you in heaven. I love you.”
