Barefoot on the Beach: No Way!

2 min read

To the editor:

It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you that you can no longer walk on the sand unless you wear shoes. Danger. Beware. There are sand spurs lurking in our beautiful sugar sand!

I have seen toddlers writhing and screaming in pain and watched while their parents, in equal pain remove these dreaded objects.

They have brought men, women and children to their, well not their knees, ah yes, their buttocks, wrestling in great hast to remove these burrs.

I use to love to walk barefoot on the beach, to feel the sand between my toes and I too have paid the price, felt the pain and they HURT!

My beach complaint use to be, (well, it still is, ask Tom Babcock who listens patiently to me ramble on) the dead and rotting algae that leaves a terrible odor along with the rusted beer cans with jagged edges, an assortment of plastic bags and a barrage of other miscellaneous items, most of them seen by the naked eye . not so these dreaded sand spurs .. so, BEWARE, DANGER LURKS AHEAD .. please send help!!!

P.S. Bravo to Ceel Spuhler for her excellent letter on 9/15/10, well done! I too am a Patriot, God Bless America! Vote!
