Greyhounds need a home
To the editor:
The Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Track stopped dog races Monday for five months and a lot of greyhounds are out of jobs. The original plan was to give the kennel operators three weeks to move all the dogs but apparently they had to leave on Wednesday, June 2.
Donna Forster of Greyhound Adoption Kennel sent 20 dogs to a Connecticut greyhound group last week and immediately took in 24 more. She’s out of room and out of money — having spent more than $3,000 getting the dogs sterilized and transported north and taking in new dogs that need food and veternarian care.
n She needs two kinds of help:
1. Foster and permanent homes for some of these sweet, gentle dogs who have earned a happy retirement.
2. Money to help offset the costs of caring and transporting them. (All the money goes to the dogs. No one in the group gets a salary.)
Greyhound Adoption Kennel is a 501 C3 group so donations are tax deductible. Send to: Greyhound Adoption Kennel, 11551 Deal Road, North Fort Myers, FL 33917. Call Donna Forster at 731-3187. The website is www.greyhoundadoptionkennel.com. There aren’t many potential adoptees posted right now since they just arrived but you can see what the kennel has done over the past 25 years.
If you need more information, call me at 851-9214.
I understand that not everyone can help with a home or money. Spreading the word will help, too.
