Crist’s Lee County coordinator resigns

2 min read

To the editor:

Governor Charlie Crist, allow this to serve as my official letter of resignation, as your Lee County Coordinator for Crist for U.S. Senate.

In January 2010, I was honored and humbled to be tapped to be part of your team and statewide campaign. Your staff are hard working, dedicated, and professional.

As you know, on April 24, my family and friends had organized a reception at our Bonita Springs home in which more than 150 people had planned on attending. We worked long and hard with great pride in organizing this event which you cancelled the evening of April 20.

Your decision recently to leave the Republican Party – without question – has compelled me to write this letter to express my profound disappointment and resignation.

It has become abundantly clear over the past few months that you have lost your way as a Republican, and more importantly for me, you have clearly abandoned any core principles you may have had as a one-time Conservative.

As you waiver on what you stand for and what party you stand with, I remain true to my core beliefs as a principled, economic Republican.

I stand committed to my GOP, and will continue to fight for an expanded and inclusive Republican party many of the ideals that I know you formerly shared for the GOP.

Therefore, again, I ask you to allow this letter to serve as my resignation, as I can no longer stand by your side.

Peter Simmons
