A great loss to our community
To the editor:
It feels almost like yesterday when Petro, as he was affectionately known, arrived on Fort Myers Beach back in 1977. He was our former Chamber President steering the beach on a road of prosperity for many individuals and businesses over the years.
This gave him the honor of being the longest serving Chamber of Commerce Director in the United States.
Petro made many friends in his years at the chamber and tackled numerous issues involving the beach and its development. He was there for the business community keeping them abreast of all the developments on the beach. He was influential with the County Commissioners as well as our own Town Council when the Beach Incorporated.
As a true public servant, Petro also served for over 25 years on the Lee County Parks and Recreation Board.
As a former Veteran of the Armed Forces, he served in WWII.
Petro as the eternal optimist would always say “I love people, I can deal with people.”
Not known by many as Dominico J. Petruccellli, I am sad to say has passed away Friday after struggling with a heart condition.
Petro leaves behind his wife Marianne, five children, and many grand children.
He will be missed by all that knew and adored him.May he rest in Peace.
Memorial services will be forthcoming.
