Help fight Cancer with Luminaries of Love

2 min read

To the editor:

I would like to share with all of the folks who would like to have a luminaria at the 2010 Relay For Life of Fort Myers Beach, “Island of Hope-Cast Away Cancer”, March 20, on the Beach in front of the Holiday Inn.

The Luminaria Ceremony is the opportunity for people to come together to remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those who have won their battle. This is one of the most moving parts of the event that you will not want to miss. Honor or remember someone at Relay For Life with a luminaria. As the sun sets over the gulf and darkness falls, the night is brightened by the glow of illuminated bags called luminaria, each bearing the name of someone who has battled cancer. Some celebrate cancer survivors, while others help us honor and remember those gone too soon. All represent someone special who has been profoundly affected by cancer and the family and friends who continue to fight back in their honor. The lighted luminaries are an awesome tribute to behold and also define the track that we will be walking around to support our fight to conquer cancer.

If you would you like to honor or remember someone with a luminaria during the Relay, you can make your luminaria donation for this year’s relay on line at The American Cancer Society Relay for Life Site and highlight the FMB Relay or go to HYPERLINK www.relayforlife.org/fortmyersbeachfl” and scroll down to luminaria. Or you can make your own at the event on site. In any case, it is a wonderful way to share your love and support. Thanks for your allowing me to share this important information.
