Vice mayor letter to county representative

2 min read

To the editor:

This is an open letter to Ray Judah, our representative on the Board of County Commissioners. If you agree, please feel free to go to the Observer’s Web site and cut and paste this into an email to all of the commissioners. Here are their addresses: dist1@leegov.com; District2@leegov.com; dist3@leegov.com; dist4@leegov.com; dist5@leegov.com

Dear Ray,

The county is actively pursuing a beach restoration plan that cuts out all of Fort Myers Beach except for the county parks at the North end and some of the land in between, abandons federal funding already in place and costs us more than the already approved and permitted project. Additionally we are giving up the federal guarantee of funds to repair the beach after a major storm event. For the good of your district please reconsider your position. Please support the plan to re-nourish the entire beach that was approved back in 2005 with dune vegetation being the voluntary choice of our beach front residents. The entire beach re-elected you with an overwhelming majority, not just the hotels north of the pier. Don’t desert us now!

P.S. It wouldn’t hurt to write our council either. You see I’ve gone rogue on this one. They all agree to support the county’s position. (Our address is council@fortmyersbeachfl.gov) When our council discussed how a new beach re-nourishment project could be funded, members of our council actually said: “beach front property owners would be heavily assessed.” This is the LAST chance to get the beach restored at NO ADDITIONAL COST TO US!!!!

Herb Acken

Vice Mayor
