Turn signal letter has snowball effect
To the editor:
I have to agree with Mr. Smith’s article last week. In fact, this is the time of year when I stop going to local restaurant’s because of long lines and people cutting in front of you whining that they are a diabetic and have to eat. I ride my bike with extreme caution during season on the island being the victim of immobilized head drivers.
These drivers look straight ahead and turn right or left, never creeping up to the stop sign to see if bicyclists or pedestrians are on the side walk. How about grocery shopping? Ten items or less people, that’s what the sign says. So why do you have to ignore it and proceed with a full basket.
Now we all know you can count. It shows in your tips to your server; remember 18 to 20 percent is adequate. So again, my question is why do you do it? Yes, we all know you spend money down here, but so do we…. the year round locals. The thing is your money is not going into my pocket. So don’t ask for discounts, steal the sugar, Sweet n’ Low and jellies or the salt and pepper shakers.
Enjoy yourself down here, but give our town and the year long residents the respect we deserve. Don’t ride the middle lane just to cut ahead a few car lengths; stop to let us out of our road so we may turn right or left. We know you see us but, with your wrap arounds and immobilized head, you make believe you don’t see us. God forbid you should let us in front of you. Would one car length really wreck your day. You see, we are not on vacation, we work here all year long. We are not tourists. So stay awhile, enjoy yourselves and then “Go Home.”
