Bridge sidewalk for walking only

1 min read

This letter pertains to riding bikes on the Matanzas bridge sidewalk. It is illegal, and a sign is posted on the sidewalk prohibiting bikers to ride their bikes on it. This sign has been covered up on certain occasions.

To the editor:

First thing, signs are in place for a reason, usually for the public’s safety. When you cover up signs, you are showing a blatant disregard for safety and the law. It is illegal to cover signs.

Secondly, just because you try to remain respectful to walkers, not everyone is. Just a couple of days ago, a biker lost control of his/her bike and rammed into me and my baby stroller. Thank God I was able to keep a hold of my stroller. Just think what would’ve happened to my son if I didn’t.

Third, yes it is dangerous to ride with traffic. No one is forcing you to. If you are afraid to ride your bike over the bridge, do the courteous thing and walk your bike over. Don’t punish the “walkers” because you are in a hurry.
