An open letter to FSU Coach Bobby Bowden
To the editor:
Coach Bowden, there are times when our values are out of focus and we lose sight of the meaning of ‘true’ greatness. Factually, greatness is not simply how far one can throw the ball, how high he can jump or how fast she might run.
Greatness, true greatness, is giving and feeling and sharing… and making better those things that serve to improve the quality of life in our society. This is the reflection of true greatness, and this has been your gift to football, Florida State University, the State of Florida and the world.
For 34 years, you have been an example of goodness and greatness for thousands of students and fans, and you have succeeded in molding lives and thereby making this a better planet. The icing on the cake was the fact that you also were a magnificant winner.
Coach, millions of grateful people join me in telling you that you are and will forever be a winner. The Bobby Bowden magic will never leave the hearts and the minds of the thousands that love and respect you. Thank you for making us all better and God bless you and your family.
