Remember the true meaning of Veterans Day

1 min read

To the editor:

In 1895 my Grandfather emigrated from County Donnegal, Ireland. He

joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Olympia during the battle of

Manila Bay 1898. The Olympia was the Flag ship of Admiral Dewey.

My father served in the U.S. Navy during the Bannana wars in the

twenties. My older brother James served in the U.S. Army in the early

1960’s. My older sister served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. I

served in the USMC 67-68 in Vietnam. I was wounded twice the same day

during the Battle of HUE city during the TET offensive 1968. My son

serves in the USMC and has completed three tours in Iraq. My Nephew is

serving in Afghanistan. The message is service above self and love of

country. I still miss my brothers who gave their lives. God Bless

America!
