Arrest the crooks
To the editor:
Selling something to an unsuspecting audience under false pretense is -and should be- a crime. Campaigning and making promises to voters in order to be elected and then ignoring the promises after gaining public office should also be criminal … and should represent the grounds for immediate dismissal and arrest.
Unfortunately, we’ve come to accept politicians as being professional liars. They believe the voters are stupid, and they can satisfy any moment with timely mis-truths. The voting public, it appears, is just too busy to unravel the slime that gets caught up in the mess, and then finds themselves stuck with an unworkable ‘barrel of monkeys.’
Politicians need to be held with their feet to the fire. Make a promise during a campaign, win the elected office and know that there’s no turning back from what you articulated. Anything short of this is unmitigated fraud should be dealt with without hesitation. Politicians need to be reminded that they work for the people and they are easily replaced. We expect honest, forthright and dedicated service. Nothing less is acceptable.
