Porn is not family entertainment
To the editor:
I have been in a state of disbelief while reading recent “Letters to the Editor” concerning Jazella Moore, Scott Janke’s wife.
According to these letters, because Jazella Moore is an entertainer, and Meg Ryan, Meryl Streep, Sally Fields, and Kim Bassinger are entertainers, too, there should be no difference in our perception of their professions. After all, no one would mind if Scott Janke had married one of these women.
On the contrary, we would probably be elated by the positive publicity that such a match would generate in the media. Jazella’s career generates publicity, true, but an unsavory kind of publicity from a very different audience than the kind of buzz that the career of a movie star generates.
Another comparison claimed that a porn career is no better and no worse than a singing career. Do you think the writer of this letter would rather have a porn star or a singing star in the family? Porn may not be illegal, but it will never be family entertainment. Singing often is. As far as status on the entertainment ladder goes, porn will never be any place but on the bottom rung.
One other letter writer would like Jazella to become our “Goodwill Ambassador” and crown a new Town porn queen at a festival every summer to boost tourism. (I hope he was being facetious.) I also hope, that before people decide that they don’t mind a porn star becoming identified with our town, they Google Jazella Moore’s image. That’s all it takes-no visits to a porn Web site-just a simple search, as many people, probably including your children and/or grandchildren, have recently done.
I am surprised that such graphic images can appear on a Web site that is so easily and universally available. I doubt that Scott Janke’s wife’s career would be detrimental to his performance as a Town Manager. That is not why the Town Council fired him, no matter how hurried the manner was in which the firing was done. The media attention caused by his termination will pass, and fortunately, so will the association of Jazella Moore with Fort Myers Beach.
