National health care issues

To the editor:

Do we need a major overhaul of America’s Health care system?

My opinion, No. Do we need to fix problems in our current health care system? My opinion, Yes.

I believe that trying to pass a single bill (H.B. 3200) to overhaul how our health care system works is a major political blunder that will not work and would seriously damage the current health care system.

The American Health Care System is not broke, but it does have some problems. I think America would be better off with several small self standing health care bills that address specific Health Care problems and issues. Small Health care changes will be easier for the public to understand and fairly evaluate. I believe that you will get public consensus much quicker with small incremental changes.

To put things into prospective, the US Constitution was written on four pages of paper with 4,608 words. House Bill 3200 America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 contains 1,036 pages and over 175,000 words. The shear size of the bill becomes over-whelming and makes me believe that Congress is trying to make it very difficult for me to understand the bill and that gives the appearance that they don’t want me to look at the details.

Our political bill passing process is not conducive to the passage of large overhaul bills. Large bills require giving many concessions to colleagues who don’t agree to get the bill passed. These concessions not only water down the bill, they also cause Politicians to compromise away our personal rights for small gains for themselves.

This is my opinion on the overhaul of America’s Health care system (H.B. 3200). I believe that we should scrap this bill and start over in 2010. I hope that reading this makes you stop and think about the problems confronting the America health care system and gets you more involved in America’s future. It’s up to you and me to make America better than it is today. Call your Congressmen and Senators and let them know your thoughts on health care.
