Capturing the Sun in the Sunshine State
To the editor:
Recently, the House or Representatives weakened the Clean Air Act to strengthen the Coal industry, regardless of the dangers it imposes on our environment. I think it is important for the American public to recognize that there is no such thing as Clean Burning Coal, and that it is merely a ploy by the coal industry to make a harmful process seem benign.
We do have a solution and one that benefits everyone, especially residents of Florida. Every time I step outside I feel the power of a couple of free, environmentally friendly solutions. If given the choice between a nuclear power plant and coal mine in your backyard versus some solar panels and windmills, I feel the choice is fairly clear.
It is time we embraced our title as the Sunshine State. Let Florida be an example of how solar and wind can be used to create power and jobs for our communities. This can all be done in a way that will not harm the very planet that we are lucky enough to inhabit. This is not about politics, or lobbyists, but instead, simple about what is right and makes sense.
